Nathan Despott is Head of Policy, Research and Advocacy at Inclusion Melbourne. He leads the Inclusion Designlab, the organisation’s centre for systemic advocacy, practice development, quality, and projects.
Nathan is passionate about self-advocacy and the application of evidence based practices to wicked problems faced by people with intellectual and cognitive disability.
He has led or co-led several large projects including the I Can Vote political inclusion project, the Your Dental Health project, the Circles of Support and Microboards (COSAM) portal, the Rainbow Inclusion and Accessible Pride LGBTQA+ intellectual disability projects, Support for Justice, and the Pass it to Me! local sport project. He also consults and delivers training in integrated practice (with a focus on support planning, Supported Decision Making, and Positive Behaviour Support), compliance with the NDIS Practice Standards, participatory project design, Circle of Support facilitation, and inclusion in local sport. He was named Outstanding Leader of the Year at the 2023 National Disability Awards.
Nathan is also an Honorary Research Fellow at La Trobe University and has worked closely with several Australian and overseas governments to establish legislation prohibiting LGBTQA+ conversion practices.
